
The United Nations general assembly has adopted a political declaration, in which member states committed themselves to reducing annual new HIV infections to under 370,000 and annual aids-related deaths to under 250,000 by 2025.
Speaking at the opening of the general assembly high-level meeting on aids, executive director of UNAIDS of the joint united nations program on HIV/aids, Winnie Byanyima, called for efforts from all over the world to end the aids by 2030.
The member states committed themselves to putting gender equality and the human rights of all women and girls at the forefront of efforts to mitigate the risk and impact of HIV.
