As the train of Digital Switch over of television broadcasting revs up again and moves towards Lagos State, stakeholders are calling for frameworks that will guarantee the sustainability of the project, post-roll out.
The platform is a webinar organised by a private media outfit, Aims Media Company Limited, to examine the prospects and requirements for successful analogue – digital switch.
From a journey that started in 2015 with the pilot switch over of analogue television transmission to digital in Jos, Plateau state, Nigeria is back on the digital trail, with another switch over scheduled for Lagos state on April 29.
This is made possible with the recent approval of 9.4 billion Naira by the federal executive council to complete the digital switch over and ensure that no one is left out
This webinar, which has major drivers of the digital switch over including the minister of information Lai Mohammed,director general Nigerian Television Authority,NTA Yakubu Ibn Mohammed, NBC Acting DG Armstrong Idachaba and Zonal Director NTA Lagos Network Centre Lawal Ahmed as participants acknowledged that Nigeria has a lot to benefit from a successful implementation of the DSO, especially in the area of digital dividends through spectrum maximization, job creation and enhanced internet penetration.
Achieving this they say require deliberate structures and policies that look beyond government funding and subsidy, to creating the right environment and incentives for investors.
The webinar, according to the Convener, Amina Muhammed seeks to explore critical issues on the DSO, including digital standard, content quality and inherent opportunities for the industry and Nigerians.
