SENATE ON NATIONAL TEA DEV. COUNCIL BILL

Senate is considering a bill that seeks to establish a National Tea and Coffee development Council in Nigeria.

The bill which has passed second reading is primarily aimed at providing a national and Coordinated approach towards the growing, processing and marketing of Tea and Coffee in Nigeria.
The proposed law when passed is expected to create jobs and attract more revenue to the national treasury.
Another bill that passed second reading is the Nigerian building and road research institute establishment bill which seeks to ensure stringent regulation of building design rules and materials.
Five bills passed first reading, this include the local industry patronage bill which seeks to provide for the mandatory patronage of made in Nigeria products.
Senate has confirmed Eight persons for appointment as members of the governing council of the Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas development commission with Joseph Terfa as Chairman and Abubakar Ahmed Yelwa as Managing director.
