QATAR 2022: TUNISIA ON THE BRINK OF EXIT AFTER LOSING 1-0 TO AUSTRALIA

Tunisia lost the second of their two matches at the 2023 World Cup in Qatar, having been edged 1-0 by Australia in a Group D midday clash at Al Janoub Stadium in Al Wakrah.

Mitchell Thomas Duke’s headed goal in the 23rd minute was all the Aussies needed to underscore their dominance over the North Africans.

The Africans were kept on the back foot for most of the game, watched by 41,823 spectators and German Daniel Siebert dishing out three cautions to Tunisia with none to Australia.

Statistics of the match was in favour of Australia as follows; 4-2 shots on target, 4-2 shots off target, 4-3 blocked shots, 54-46% ball possession, 5-2 corner kicks, 19-17 crosses, and 1-4 goalkeeper saves.

This leaves the Carthage Eagles with one point secured in their barren draw against Denmark in their opening game, while Australia secured their first win, having lost 4-1 to France in their first game on Monday, November 22.

Tunisia now must work extra hard to progress from the group as they face the daunting task of defeating France in the last group match, starting at 16:00 at Education City Stadium, Al Rayyan, on November 30.

Australia were second with three points prior to the group’s second game of the day between France and Denmark billed to start at 17:00 at Stadium 974, Doha. They will face the Danes for the last game on November 30.
