OPERATION SWIFT RESPONSE CHANGES IDENTITY

Still on course to combat smuggling, irregular migration and other crimes along Nigeria’s borders following the reopening the borders, the operation swift response launched in august 2019 and coordinated by the office of the national security adviser has transformed into Nigeria’s joint border patrol team as part of a tripartite operation comprising Nigeria, Niger and Benin Republic.

In a statement by the public relations officer of the Nigeria customs service, Joseph Attah who is also the spokesperson of the joint patrol, the national security adviser, Babagan Mongunu emphasized that the joint border patrol would be adequately administered and implored the team to remain uncompromising.
Attah further stated that a year and four months into the operation, one thousand four hundred and one irregular migrants have been arrested while seized items have been valued at twelve billion, five hundred and thirty eight million,three hundred and thirty three thousand, five hundred and forty five naira and fifty kobo (#12,538,333,545.50).
