NIGERIA IN SECOND WAVE OF COVID-19- PTF

The Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 says there are indications that the country has entered a second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic and it stands the risk of not just loosing the gains from the hard work of the last nine months but also loosing the lives of citizens.

The chairman of the PTF and Secretary to the government of the Federation, Mr Boss Mustapha stated this at the press Briefing of the task Force in Abuja.

Represented by the Minister of Aviation, Sen. Hadi Sirika, the SGF said the spikes in the number of infections in the past two weeks within and outside the country had generated mixed reactions.

” In Nigeria, the indication is that we have entered a second wave of infections and we stand the risk of not just losing the gains from the hard work of the last nine months but also loosing the precious lives of our citizens.”

“The PTF believes that if citizens adhere to the Non-pharmaceutical interventions and step up testing and detection centers, the loss of lives will be minimized and the rising curve will begin to flatten out.”

The PTF chairman further stated that the country was in a potentially difficult phase of the COVID-19 resurgence stressing that vaccines would not be available soon.

Mr. Mustapha also promised that the PTF would escalate its risk communication and community engagement strategies to slow down the pace of the spread

The PTF Chairman also noted that it will submit its end of term report to President Mohammadu Buhari on Tuesday next week.

Mr. Mustapha also advised that all non-essential trips be cancelled, urging every citizen to avoid large gathering
