COVID-19 infections detected from inbound travellers to Nigeria have surpassed Eighteen thousand cases as at January 16, 2022.
Director General, Nigeria Centre for Disease Control Dr. Ifedayo Adetifa who disclosed the statistics in a press statement explained that the growing COVID-19 positivity rate among in-bound travelers informed the decision to make repeat tests mandatory in Nigeria.
He said despite complaints of airport delays being experienced by in-bound passengers, the use of the Nigerian International Travel Portal should not be trivialized as it remains an effective means of preventing the importation of COVID-19 through air travel and reducing the risk of further spread of the virus and its variants in the country.
The NCDC DG assured that the travel portal has been upgraded to enable a more user-friendly experience for travellers, laboratories, and other users.
To ensure seamless use of the travel portal, the NCDC urges the public to adhere strictly to stated guidelines, stressing that registration on the travel portal should be done immediately negative COVID-19 test result is obtained, preferably 24 hours prior to travel date.
