The House of Representatives is considering, through constitution amendment, giving legal backing to states security outfit.
A constitution amendment bill sponsored by representative Anthony Afe which passed second reading noted that the bill would enable such outfits complement the Nigeria Police Force maintain law and order across the country.
The bill provides that states and local governments play defined and active roles pertaining to funding and other logistic support towards improving crime fighting and intelligence gathering.
The bill was referred to the constitution review committee for further legislative action.
Meanwhile the House has urged the Central Bank of Nigeria to reverse the seeming free fall of the naira against the dollar as moved by representative Bamidele Salami.
