Some traders at the army market Ikpoba Hill, Benin city have lost their sources of livelihoods, following last night’s fire incident in which goods and properties worth millions of naira were destroyed in the market.
The fire incident which according to some eyewitness account started at about 9 o’clock in the night, affected about sixteen shops mostly dealers in electronics and electrical appliances.
Some of the traders estimated that 300million naira worth of goods may have been lost to the inferno and to hoodlums who took advantage of the situation to loot some shops. They appealed for assistance from government and well meaning individuals.
NTA news crew was also informed that efforts by firefighting personnel from nearby Guineas brewery to bring the inferno under control could not yield much result, due to inadequate firefighting materials.
