FG UNVEILS NEW REVENUE STAMP TO BOOST ECONOMY

A new revenue stamp to boost the nation’s revenue base has been unveiled.

At the ceremony in Abuja, the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr Ibrahim Isa Pantami said the revenue postage stamp duty industry was huge and Nigeria could not afford to be left out.

The Minister noted that the Federal Government was repositioning the Nigeria Postal Service; NIPOST to harness its potentials for effective revenue generation through grassroots based services.

Dr Pantami said the global philately industry which has been in existence for centuries was neglected in Nigeria in the past.

The Post Master General of the Federation and Chief Executive of NIPOST, Dr Ismail Adewusi said stamps which were first used in Nigeria in 1874, served as objects of historical, cultural and financial value for the country.

Dr Adewusi stressed that the new stamp was a response to the need to reposition Nigeria’s revenue base premised on the disruptive technology brought about by digital services.

The Chairman of the Board of the Nigeria Postal Service, NIPOST, Maimuna Abubakar said with the passage of the amended Nigeria Finance Act 2020, the NIPOST had been empowered to re-engage its revenue drive through revenue stamp.

The event, attended by dignitaries including the Director General of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, Dr Mansur Liman represented by the Director Legal Services, Mr David Angbazo featured presentation of the revenue stamp which is embossed with the national emblem of the coat of arms.
