The ECOWAS election observation mission in Niger Republic has declared the December 27th presidential and legislative elections as orderly, peaceful and professionally conducted.
The head of mission and former Nigeria’s vice president, Mohammed Namadi Sambo who presented the ECOWAS position, expressed satisfaction with steps and measures taken by the government to ensure the security of the electoral process and the safety of electoral officials, candidates, voters and observers during the election.
While calling for improvement on the shortcoming observed during the election, the mission urged key players to respect and protect the democratic principles guiding the electoral process.
The mission however condoled with the government and people of Niger republic over the death of 34 civilians and 7 soldiers who lost their lives in the terrorist attack, which occurred during the electoral campaign period.
ECOWAS deployed a total of 100 long-term and short-term observers for the elections.
